I took this photo in Vietnam in June 2002. These kids live in a residential neighborhood that now sits on the site of the former U.S. Marine base in Dong Ha. Shades of Shelley's "Ozymandias," nothing now remains of our once-proud presence but a small aircraft hangar hidden behind a house (the image to the right). My former sergeant, Bill Cooke, and I would never have known we were on the site of the base, nor would we have noticed the hangar, had our guide not taken us there and told us where we were.
